Rest In Peace Chapter 6 "We haven't heard from Master Quatre in almost three weeks now." Rashid said softly. Trowa leaned back into his seat and stared unblinkingly at the screen. "No one?" Rashid shook his head. "What's wrong Trowa? Where is Master Quatre?" At the question, tears began to well in the emeralds. "He's dead." The Latin whispered softly. "What?" It was a question of astoundishment. "Are you sure?" It was Trowa's turn to nod. "How did it happen?" "I'm not sure. All I know is that someone around here murdered him. . .and I won't rest until I find the bastard responsible." "Have you been found?" "Unlikely. If we were discovered, they wouldn't have just killed Quatre. They would have tried to take the others. Somehow they got Quatre when he was alone. . .it's possible it could have been one of them." "A Gundam pilot?" Trowa nodded. "All three of them have been acting strangely." "How so?" "Wu Fei is acting as if nothing has happened. . .Heero has. . .become human, and Duo. . .Duo's just not himself." "Perhaps I should. . ." "No. Stay where you are. If I need help, I'll let you know." "But. . ." "I have to go. I don't want to rouse any suspicion. I'll keep in contact regularly." He didn't give Rashid time for any kind of response as he turned off the screen in Heavyarms. Sitting in the darkness, he thought about what he had said. In truth, he never thought about one of the guys killing Quatre, it just sort of sprung out. . .but the more he thought about it, the more it was possible. But why would any of them want to kill Quatre? He analyzed the situation carefully. First was Wu Fei. He was acting as if he didn't even care that Quatre was gone. There's also that bit of information that he gave about Quatre's capture. Since Quatre didn't even leave for the factory, how did he receive the transmission? Furthermore, if he did receive the transmission, why did he head back to the cabin to tell the others? Wu Fei wasn't the type to ask anyone before he did something. He was lacking a motive, but then again, no one really knew what he was thinking at any given time. Duo had been acting strange too. Though it could be described has hatred toward Trowa, it could also be built up guilt. Was Duo truly jealous that Heero was messing with Trowa, or was it because Duo felt that the proper amount of grief wasn't being given to Quatre's death. It seemed unlikely that the wounds on Quatre's body could have been brought about by someone like Duo, but then again, he was a Gundam pilot for a reason. Then there was the fact that Duo was constantly drinking. Some people tend to become aggressive when they drink. In truth, Trowa had never seen Duo drunk enough to the point that he was aggressive, but that was still a possibility. It also could explain why the attacker removed the victim's tongue. Perhaps Duo couldn't stand hearing Quatre's pain. . .once again, no motive, since the two of them were practically brothers. Then, there was Heero. It seemed odd that it wasn't until after Quatre's death that he started moving in on Trowa. He was also very determined to make Trowa forget about Quatre and move on. If Wu Fei was telling the truth, then that would explain why Heero told him not to worry about it. Thinking of this lead to the possibility that Heero could have staged the transmission to take off some of the suspicion to Quatre's absence. Then there was the fact that the footprints earlier lead to Heero's room first, and then ran outside. The presence of all three of them seemed to lead to the disappearance of Quatre's spirit. . .but then again, the same thing happened earlier when he discovered the body. Quatre had disappeared before he opened the hatch. The person that attacked Trowa showed up afterwards. Which lead to another question. . .why didn't they kill Trowa after finding Quatre's body? On his way to Heavyarms, he passed the lake to find that Sandrock was gone. . .as well as the corpse. Which meant that someone had moved it and covered their tracks well, since there was no sign on the sandy shore that someone had been there. All three comrades were gone at that time. . .but someone could easily be lying. Thinking of this, he pulled the receipt from his pocket. It was timed at twelve thirty, but Duo didn't return until after dark. So what was he doing the whole afternoon? He didn't come back drunk. So being at a bar wasn't possible. . .but with Duo, it was unknowing what he could have been doing. The American was easily sidetracked if persuaded properly. For all Trowa knew, Duo could have bought himself a hooker before coming home to feel better about his argument with Heero. . .but the ice cream he was eating was still solid. If he didn't come straight back after shopping, then it would have been softer, unless he picked it up right before he came home. Head still swimming, Trowa climbed out of his metal teammate and resettled the net. It was odd that he had yet to receive a mission, but he wasn't complaining. That only meant that he could focus more on figuring out this whole mystery. As he walked by the lake, he stopped and kneeled at the shore. He peered down at the surface, willing Quatre to appear. . .but he didn't. The only one he saw in the water was himself. It was then that he remembered the gun he had on him earlier. He stood and checked his hiding space. . .it was gone. Even more confused, he headed back to the cabin. Duo wasn't anywhere inside when he returned. Glad for that, he went straight to his room and looked between the mattress. The gun was laying in it's original place as if it had never been touched. There were only two people that knew it was there, himself and Heero. Grabbing the armament, he searched the barrel to find that it was empty. Whoever attacked him earlier wanted him to be unarmed. Without really thinking, his eyes rested on Heero's lap top that was sitting on the dresser. If Heero had received a mission, then it would have came through that computer. . . .but he wouldn't be stupid enough to leave important information to be found. Still, Trowa had a feeling that it held something that could help him. The problem would be trying to figure out the password to allow access. It could be any random number, letters, or word. Knowing Heero, it would take forever to figure out. At that instant, the front door opened, reminding Trowa of another problem. If Duo ever caught him messing around with Heero's lap top, he wouldn't hesitate to spill the beans. Then how would Trowa explain his actions? If Heero was responsible for Quatre's death, it would be wise not to let on that it was suspected. Shoving the gun back between the mattress, Trowa stood in time for Duo to walk pass. Duo stopped and studied Trowa for a minute. "What are you looking at?" Trowa didn't respond, he only stared blankly at the American. "You're fucking weird." He didn't say any more as he disappeared into his room, closing the door behind him. The Latin walked over to his own door and closed it as well. He then laid on his bed and stared at Heero's computer. He couldn't help but wonder what the password was. He pondered it until his head hurt, but wasn't any closer to even having a clue. He turned onto his side and stared at the mirror. Quatre helped him find Sandrock, why couldn't he help with the password? He sat up in bed and studied the mirror. The entire cabin was quite, so it was possible that Duo was asleep. Trowa closed his eyes for a moment and thought about Quatre. He remembered what it felt like to hold the small blonde. He recalled the tone of his voice and laugh. The way his face lit up every time that he showed his beautiful smile. "Help me Quatre." Trowa whispered softly and
opened his eyes. He expected to find the ghostly form in the mirror,
but didn't. "Please Quatre. I can't do this without you."
He waited for the temperature to change, but it remained hot and sticky.
Sighing, he returned his attention to the lap top. He had three days
to find a way to break the password, learn what he could, and not
arouse any suspicion. Once Heero returns, it was untelling when he
would get another chance. . .meaning he was going to have to find
a way to get Duo away from the cabin for a few hours. . . .or knock
him out. He could try while Duo was sleeping, but always ran the risks
of getting caught; the results would be ghastly. Besides, if Duo was
the murder, and he learned that Trowa was catching on, it may send
him to flee. Trowa didn't want that. . .he wanted to make sure whoever
caused this was going to pay for it. Chapter
